Gwinnett Technical College Celebrates Graduates at 2024 Commencement

Lawrenceville, GA – On May 7, 2024, Gwinnett Technical College proudly held its 2024 Commencement, conferring more than five hundred degrees, diplomas, and certificates to students from diverse backgrounds. Dr. D. Glen Cannon, Gwinnett Tech president, presided over the joyous ceremony, recognizing the remarkable achievements of the Class of 2024. The Commencement speaker was Gwinnett Tech’s Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year, TC Parker, a 25-year instructor of Surgical Technology at the College.

The graduates, adorned in their caps and gowns, represented a tapestry of dreams, aspirations, and hard work. From computer science to culinary arts, healthcare to engineering, each student’s journey is unique. As graduates crossed the stage, they carried the knowledge, skills, and determination to shape their futures.

Despite facing numerous challenges, these graduates demonstrated resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to their education. Many juggled full-time jobs, family responsibilities, and financial hardships while pursuing their studies. Their perseverance culminated in a triumphant walk across the graduation stage, symbolizing their readiness for successful careers and entrepreneurial ventures.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Cannon stated, “Many of you have faced obstacles that would have deterred the faint-hearted. Balancing college, a full-time job, family responsibilities, and financial hardships are no small feats.” His words resonated with the audience, who knew firsthand these graduates’ struggles.

“Today,” Dr. Cannon continued, “you stake your claim to success. You hold the power to open doors, shape destinies, and create change.” The applause that followed echoed through the arena, a testament to the collective pride felt by faculty, families, and friends.

While some graduates will immediately enter the workforce, others will continue their education through transfer agreements with other Georgia colleges and universities. Gwinnett Tech, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, offers twenty-one programs with industry-specific accreditations. Many of these programs rank among the top ten educational offerings nationwide.
