Gwinnett Tech Students Earn Recognition at DEX International Business Competition

Five Gwinnett Tech students earned honors at the recent Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) 2009 International Career Development Conference. All were already first place winners at the state level, where they earned the right to compete in California at the international conference.

Delta Epsilon Chi is an international organization for college students preparing for a variety of careers and fosters development through several avenues including annual skills competitions, networking with industry leaders and leadership training.

Alisha Ellis, DEX club treasurer, received the highly coveted Certificate of Excellence Award in the Sales Representative Prepared Business Presentation division. Four additional Gwinnett Tech students earned honorable mentions, including Cassy Schnautz, DEX president; JJ Farina; Jessica Deresch, a DEX state officer; and Bolt Ronpirin, The students competed in case study, business simulations, and prepared presentations in Marketing Management at the competition. Farina is a Sport and Recreation Management student at Gwinnett Tech, and the other four students are enrolled in the Marketing Management program.

The students were accompanied on the trip by Perry Hidalgo, program director for Marketing Management and Sport and Recreation Management and DEX advisor.

Gwinnett Tech’s students competed against two- and four-year colleges from around the world at the conference. The areas of competition included Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Sports and Entertainment, Business Management and Administration, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Fashion Merchandising & Marketing and Advertising Campaign, among other topics.

Gwinnett Tech offers both associate degree and diploma programs in Marketing Management and in Sport and Recreation Management, as well as certificate options for sport management, recreation management and marketing specialist.
