GTC Students Receive More Than $105,000 in Scholarships at Awards Ceremony
Adam Price Named 2011 Distinguished Student
The Gwinnett Tech Foundation awarded more than 100 scholarships for academic excellence and achievement to Gwinnett Tech students totaling $105,643 at the college's annual Awards Ceremony last week. Students were recognized for achievements in academic, vocational and occupational skills, as well as leadership and teamwork.
"It's always a great pleasure to honor these students' achievements," says Sharon Bartels, president, Gwinnett Technical College. "We have so many deserving and highly successful students at Gwinnett Tech, which speaks to both the commitment our students have to their education and to the community and to the dedication of our faculty and staff."
Dr. Jay Desai, a member of the Gwinnett Tech Foundation board who also established the Dr. Rekha Desai Excellence in Nursing Education Scholarship, is a strong proponent of supporting education. "I believe excellence in education should be encouraged for future generations. This is true in health fields where good grades must be complemented by a desire to serve and provide compassionate care. The Rekha Desai Scholarship was created to help students in need with their educational costs and give them encouragement to be well-rounded nurses with competent, caring attitudes so when they go out in the community they will be proud of the outstanding education they received at Gwinnett Technical College."
Computer Information Systems student Adam Price was named Gwinnett Tech's 2011 Distinguished Student at the ceremony.
Price was honored with the award for his academic excellence, dedication to community and campus outreach. An ambitious student, he is currently working towards a Networking Specialist degree with a concentration in both Windows and Cisco Network, plus a certificate for Information Security Specialist.
Price also works part-time as a tutor while operating his own home theater business. He is a Dean's List recipient, treasurer for the Voices of the World campus club and has served as a GTC Student Ambassador.
Computer Information Systems instructor Rita Patel, who has taught Price, says, "His intelligence is packed with humor and charisma. He's honest and committed to his work both professionally and personally. He has a passion for the IT field and he ignites that passion within other students during class."
Price was selected from among six student finalists which included Ana Antunovic, Criminal Justice; Erin Baggett, Surgical Technology; Ami Bryant, Radiologic Technology; Stella Smith, Dental Lab Technology; Carolyn Tolbert, Business Administrative Technology; and Maggie Waddell, Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.
GTC offers more than 45 degree, diploma and certificate options that can be completed in two years or less. For more information, visit www.GwinnettTech.edu or call 770-962-7580.
