Gwinnett Tech Expands Continuing Education Class Locations
Gwinnett Technical College will soon offer Continuing Education Division courses in new classroom space at Gwinnett Place Mall, expanding high-demand language and business services training courses from the college's main campus into the community.
Gwinnett Tech's Continuing Education Division will occupy 32,600 square feet at Simon Property Group's Gwinnett Place Mall, opening in mid-September with classes starting in early October 2008.
"With continued and significant growth at our main campus, we've been looking for ways to best increase capacity and serve more people," says Sharon Bartels, president, Gwinnett Tech. "Taking these Continuing Education courses into the community where residents can benefit supports our mission on two fronts – improving access to education for all who desire it and supporting economic development in the communities we serve."
Courses to be taught at the new Gwinnett Tech location at Gwinnett Place will focus on workforce training to meet the needs of individuals and companies in the area. These classes will include:
"Our goal is to educate and train the area's workforce – both on our main campus and throughout the community," Bartels explains. "In this case, we're delighted to be utilizing existing space and supporting the economic vibrancy of Gwinnett Place."
In anticipation of the fall expansion, effective June 30, Gwinnett Tech will shift English as a Second Language (ESL) classes now offered across the street at its English Language Institute, 1800 Macleod, back to the main campus for summer quarter.
For fall quarter, Gwinnett Tech is partnering with Gwinnett County Public Schools to offer ESL classes at two area high schools. Norcross High School is one location; the other will be finalized shortly. Additional ESL classes will be offered at several churches.
Gwinnett Tech offers free ESL classes through its Adult Education Division, made possible by federal funding, and additional classes through the Continuing Education Division.
Gwinnett Tech operates one of the state's largest Continuing Education Divisions, recording an enrollment increase of 85 percent last year. GTC offers hundreds of workforce-related courses and seminars in business; computer sciences and certifications; leadership and management; construction, manufacturing and industrial; real estate; health and wellness; and language and bilingual skills.
