Gwinnett Tech Students Earn Top Honors at National SkillsUSA Competition
GTC Takes Home the Gold in Early Education for 4th Consecutive Year
Gwinnett Technical College students made their mark at the National SkillsUSA Championships in June, earning national medals in preschool teaching and photography. All five GTC students participating at nationals placed among the top twenty in their program category.
The 2009 National SkillsUSA Championships showcase the skills of post-secondary students through hands-on competitions in leadership, health occupations, trades/industry and technical contests. SkillsUSA is a nonprofit organization that serves teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
GTC's Kelli Hefton, an early childhood education student from Sugar Hill, earned the gold medal in the Pre-School Teaching Assistant division. This is the fourth consecutive year that a GTC student has earned a gold medal in early education.
Damian AhChing, a commercial photography student from Grayson, won the bronze medal in photography. This is the second time in four years that a GTC student has medaled in photography.
