GWINNETT – NORTH FULTON – On Friday, October 12, 2018 Dr. D. Glen Cannon, president of Gwinnett Technical College, spoke to a crowd of community stakeholders in the Busbee Center’s Cisco Auditorium, delivering his annual State of the College address.
Dr. Cannon recognized dignitaries, elected officials and civic leaders in attendance and was quick to thank the College Board of Directors, Foundation Trustees, academic advisory board members and corporate partners for their active engagement. He praised the College’s faculty for their dedication and commitment to student success each and every day. Dr. Cannon said, “everything you see today related to our success is because of our tremendous faculty.”
In the past year, the College served more than 21,000 students across its credit, economic development, continuing education, and adult education programs. With record enrollment, the College experienced a 8.5% increase in credit enrollment alone.
Jeff White, Gwinnett Tech’s 2018 Perkins Instructor of the Year spoke about the commitment Gwinnett Tech’s faculty has to their students, “our mission and commitment to each student so they reach their goals and succeed in their careers is unparalleled.” Gwinnett Tech’s faculty understands the role they play in workforce development and building a better community. Rebecca Alexander, vice president of academic affairs added “we have dedicated instructors who came from the careers they now prepare students to enter.”
The College’s overall job placement rate continues to be nearly perfect, with graduates experiencing a 99.9% job placement rate. “Our mission is to ensure students graduate, get a great job, leading to a rewarding career, and are also able to support business and industry’s need for a sustainable and qualified workforce,” stated Dr. Cannon.
As part of the annual gathering, special recognitions were awarded. The Commercial Construction Management Advisory Board was recognized as the 2018 Advisory Board of the Year. Travis Simpson, won the Alumni of the Year Award, Primerica Foundation received the 2018 Benefactor of the Year Award and Kent Davies, president and CEO of the Johns Creek Chamber of Commerce and Gwinnett Tech Foundation Board Vice-Chair was recognized as the 2018 Volunteer of the Year.
