0:00:09.890,0:00:14.150 [Music] The office of Veterans Affairs here  at Gwinnett Tech helps our veteran students 0:00:14.150,0:00:19.520 and their family members transition from military  to college. We customize our approach to meet our 0:00:19.520,0:00:24.590 veterans where they're at. We have a long list of  services to help them succeed. [Travis Simpson] I think most of our 0:00:24.590,0:00:31.070 veterans struggle with just being overwhelmed  when they come through especially transitioning 0:00:31.070,0:00:37.430 from military to college or civilian life. One of  the big things that I like to do is kind of slow 0:00:37.430,0:00:44.450 it down a little bit and and piece it together  and start with one part the admissions part. [Willie Stewart] The 0:00:44.450,0:00:51.530 Veteran Affairs Office has been outstanding for  me. The things that I may have had confusion about 0:00:51.530,0:00:58.160 when I go in and talk to them I go in and sit with  them they always give me clarity I understand it 0:00:58.160,0:01:04.070 but most of all they was always helpful to me. [Ashley Moore] Some schools they don't have the convenience of 0:01:04.070,0:01:10.130 a Veterans Affairs Office like going on tech does  which I'm very thankful for. [Isaac Smith] I was having problems 0:01:10.130,0:01:15.800 with registering online last week because they had  me blocked for some reason within five minutes of 0:01:15.800,0:01:21.680 being online he set up give me a second I would  say about maybe seven minutes he fixed it. 0:01:21.680,0:01:28.490 [Zachary Lambert] The biggest challenge that I've had to face coming  back to school is that I have two children now and 0:01:28.490,0:01:34.580 one of them is autistic so it takes quite a bit  of time to take them to all the therapies that he 0:01:34.580,0:01:40.220 needs and so on the office of Veterans Affairs has  helped me you know just making sure that all of 0:01:40.220,0:01:46.370 my GI bills stuff all the questions and concerns  that I have are answered and they guide me through 0:01:46.370,0:01:55.190 it and I've had no problems. [Dennis Antone Fludd] My name is Dennis  Antone Fludd I served at Hope field Air Force 0:01:55.190,0:02:01.220 Base at Special Operations Command and Fort Walton  Beach Florida. We talked about what my disabilities 0:02:01.220,0:02:07.130 were which is combat induced PTSD and I have a  brain injury a mild brain injury but it comes 0:02:07.130,0:02:13.760 with a lot of cognitive deficiencies. The Veterans  Affairs office you know we came up with guidelines 0:02:13.760,0:02:19.490 of what I need to know and things I need to work  on and they walked me to my classes and made sure 0:02:19.490,0:02:25.140 that I was aware where they and they talked to  different instructors that were teaching the 0:02:25.140,0:02:31.230 classes and made sure that I was doing good with  my curriculum. I consider them friends you know 0:02:31.230,0:02:37.080 there there are very good business professionals.  I don't hear that often thank you for your service 0:02:37.080,0:02:45.750 but I hear it often at this campus and they do  a solid job at recognizing that. [Ashley Moore] I believe that 0:02:45.750,0:02:52.620 strongly it's not just our Veterans Affairs office  that deals with veterans themselves it's a lot of 0:02:52.620,0:03:01.860 their dependents. [Willie Stewart] They took care of my daughters  they took a great load off for me and for that 0:03:01.860,0:03:08.130 reason it was easier for all of us to transition  to go to that next level. [Zachary Lambert] The biggest advantage 0:03:08.130,0:03:13.230 to the Office of Veterans Affairs is just the  knowledge that they have and every time I've 0:03:13.230,0:03:18.720 gone in to speak with somebody there they've been  able to answer my question quickly accurately and 0:03:18.720,0:03:24.270 they don't even have to look up the answer  to tell me. [Willie Stewart] I think for me it was just that 0:03:24.270,0:03:32.100 general encouragement and people making you feel  like you could do this. [Ashley Moore] I would definitely tell 0:03:32.100,0:03:40.800 every veteran do it don't stop after you get  out take the chance take the risk. Without risk 0:03:40.800,0:03:46.500 there is no reward. [Isaac Smith] We have the support system  that's needed and that's what makes it so great. 0:03:46.500,0:03:47.000 [Music]
