From cutting hair to owning and running your own salon, Gwinnett Tech’s Cosmetology program provides students with vital skills needed to excel in the personal care industry.
In the Gwinnett Tech Cosmetology program, you’ll gain specialized training in safety, hair treatments and manipulations, skin and nail care and sales and management.
About
Gwinnett Tech’s Cosmetology program delivers comprehensive training in a variety of hair cutting, styling, and chemical treatments for all clients. The curriculum includes performing services on actual clients to instill customer service skills. The program emphasizes the diversity of the beauty and personal care industry, creating an experience that is open, affirming, and tailored to each client’s needs. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology and Barbers.
Successful completion of the program qualifies the student to participate in the State Board Examination, which has the authority to grant a Master Cosmetologist License to a person passing both practical and written examinations.

**Due to the demand and popularity of Cosmetology & Barbering Programs at Gwinnett Technical College, new students must contact Ms. Williams, FWilliams@GwinnettTech.edu, after being fully accepted into the college to complete a program advisement form. Acceptance into Gwinnett Technical College does not guarantee immediate placement within these programs. Students must be at least 17 years old to start the program.
Can I work while I learn?
Gwinnett Tech’s Cosmetology and Barbering program prepares students in our student salon where they work on real clients while learning to build their own book of business.
What is the difference between a Master Barber and a Master Cosmetologist?
A Master Cosmetologist can offer a larger range of personal services than a Master Barber. A Master Cosmetologist can perform skin care services, nail treatments, hairstyles and cuts, and chemical services on diverse clients.
How much will it cost?
Gwinnett Tech offers affordability at $107 per credit hour + fees. Great opportunities for scholarships and financial aid with HOPE Grant, HOPE scholarship, HOPE Career Grants and more!
