Gwinnett Technical College Announces Adult Education Teacher of the Year, Dr. Demetria Monix Davis, Ed.D

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Gwinnett Technical College announces Dr. Demetria Monix Davis, Ed.D., as the College’s Adult Education Teacher of the Year, honoring her outstanding dedication to empowering adult learners and expanding educational opportunities across the region.

Dr. Monix Davis draws inspiration for teaching from personal family experiences. Her father left school in the third grade to support his family and later returned as an adult to earn his high school diploma. Watching education restore his dignity, confidence, and belief in himself shaped her purpose and commitment to Adult Education. Teaching allows her to honor that legacy by helping learners rediscover their strength and understand that it is never too late to begin again.

Her students’ courage and resilience fuel her work. Adult learners often balance demanding jobs, family responsibilities, and personal challenges. Their determination transforms the classroom into a place of hope. Moments when a concept clicks or confidence resurfaces serve as daily reminders of education’s power to change lives. Instruction, she believes, involves more than academics; it reignites potential.

“I want every student who enters my classroom to feel seen, supported, and capable,” said Dr. Monix Davis. “Education is more than a pathway to a diploma. It is a pathway to dignity, confidence, and opportunity. My goal is to help students believe in themselves again.”

Dr. Monix Davis aims to leave every student with more than new skills. Confidence, self-worth, and a renewed belief in future possibilities are central goals. Student success strengthens not only individual lives but also families, communities, and the regional workforce. Education opens doors that once felt closed and encourages learners to see themselves as capable and valuable.

Representing Gwinnett Technical College brings deep meaning to this recognition. The College’s commitment to adult learners reflects a belief in second chances and the transformative power of education. This honor highlights both individual achievement and the collective work of educators who dedicate themselves to lifting students and communities. Dr. Monix Davis is proud to serve an institution that strengthens Georgia’s workforce and provides life-changing opportunities.

Dr. Monix Davis resides in Grayson, Georgia, and earned her Doctor of Education degree from Union University in Memphis, Tennessee.
