LAWRENCEVILLE—The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) redesignated Gwinnett Technical College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) through the academic year 2030. The CAE-CD program aims to increase understanding of Cyber Defense (CD) technology, policy, and practices, enabling our nation to prevent and respond to catastrophic cyber incidents and events.

This CAE-CD designation acknowledges that Gwinnett Technical College meets the program criteria’s increasing demands, significantly advancing state-of-the-art CD knowledge and practice by developing a technically skilled workforce. Being one of the few CAE-CD schools in Georgia and nationwide, Gwinnett Tech’s cybersecurity program is not only accredited but also recognized as a source of elite talent for key cybersecurity positions in the US Military (DoD) and Federal Government (NSA, CIA), safeguarding our nation’s infrastructure.
Dr. D. Glen Cannon, president, states, “This redesignation brings renewed recognition and prestige to our college, significantly enhancing our graduates’ pursuit of exemplary cybersecurity careers. Our students will be workforce-ready to tackle any cyber challenge, whether in the private, public, or government sector.”
Gwinnett Tech students will master the 15 core competencies identified by NSA/DHS for two-year programs, including cyber defense, security design, cryptography, and ethics. The college designed the coursework to prepare students for entry-level positions in the cybersecurity workforce and to help them pass multiple cyber-related industry certification examinations required by many employers.
Gwinnett Tech’s associate degree in cybersecurity can be completed in two years or less. For more information on the program, please visit GwinnettTech.edu/Cybersecurity.
