Exemption Exams

Exemption exams allow you to receive Gwinnett Technical College credit for classes by passing an exam. Course credit by examination is recorded as EXE on the transcript and is not included in the calculation of the student’s GPA. EXE credit does not count as institutional credit (students are required to earn a minimum of 40% of their program’s required credits at Gwinnett Tech in order to be granted an award).

The tests are timed and you must check the content sheet for specific details.

A current picture ID will be required for test admittance.

Currently enrolled or accepted program students may take exemption exams, so long as they have completed the required prerequisites prior to taking the exam. Students may not request exemption tests for courses they have been enrolled in or withdrawn from, nor may they take an exemption test more than once.

Any time during the semester but the exam must be completed and graded prior to the start of the upcoming term. Allow one week for grading.

You must score 80% or higher to pass an exemption exam.

The cost of the Exemption Exam depends on the number of credits for the course.  Prices for each exam are listed on RegisterBlast when you choose the exam.  For example, a three credit Exemption Exam is $75 plus a $3.50 processing fee for a total of $78.50.  The fee will be paid online when you register at either campus:
