Gwinnett Technical College Hits Record-Breaking Enrollment

GWINNETT – Gwinnett Technical College has recorded the highest enrollment numbers in the College’s 39-year history. More than 9,800 students across the region are drawing to the classrooms at Gwinnett Tech for exciting educational programs and career opportunities.

The 2023 Fall semester has recorded a 16% boost in enrollment over a year ago. These numbers do not include the later fall mini-mester (term C) enrollment figures expected in early November. This past spring, the College saw a 9% jump in enrollment over the previous spring.

Dr. D. Glen Cannon, President of Gwinnett Tech, attributes this surge in enrollment to a few key factors:

  • Opening the new Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Emerging Technologies Building and the renovation of Building A/100. The state-funded $42 million project included a new three-story building for Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Emerging Technologies programs; renovation of existing structures, including Building 100, the One-Stop Enrollment Center, the Library, the Student Life Center, and new chemistry and physics labs that support health sciences.
  • A dramatic increase in students transferring to Gwinnett Tech from traditional four-year colleges as students seek to ensure they get the direct, hands-on skill sets needed in this global work environment while ensuring their tuition and educational expenses are as minimal as possible. Students are choosing the fastest, least costly, but highly qualified programs for a meaningful, financially rewarding career.
  • An increased awareness about programs and support services for Veterans and their families. The College’s Office of Military and Veteran Student Support is ranked 5th in the nation by Military Friendly®.

The College now offers over 140 associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Gwinnett Tech’s programs continue to grow and expand to meet the ever-changing demands of the job market. Recently, the College launched new programs in Automotive with the addition of the Ford Asset Program, Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Service Technician, Driverless and Driver Assist Systems Certificate. New offerings launched in Mechatronics with the Rapid Transit Technology Diploma and Natural Gas Technician Certificate and in Health Sciences with the Endoscope Reprocessing Technician Certificate.

Dr. Cannon says, “We see many across our community seeking the affordable, flexible, and experiential learning environment that Gwinnett Tech offers. We are constantly working to respond and deliver educational programs that meet the real-time needs of our community. Our faculty and staff are diligent and dedicated to offering a career-focused education for real-world jobs.”

The College is also gearing up for a record-breaking spring semester starting in January as new programs focused on the emerging Electric Vehicle (EV) industry, including the first program in the state devoted to the charging stations and systems EVs require. An ADN-RN registered nursing program is being developed for the Alpharetta-North Fulton campus to accompany the twenty-two health programs currently offered on the Lawrenceville main campus.
