Class of 2022 Commencement Ceremony

The Class of 2022 includes students who have applied for graduation for Fall 2021, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022.

Note: Participation in the Commencement ceremony is not mandatory. Physical awards will not be distributed during the ceremony, please visit Graduation for instructions on how to receive your graduation award.

Purchase Cap and Gown
Purchase the appropriate cap and gown at the Lawrenceville campus bookstore in Building 100 or the Alpharetta-North Fulton campus on the first floor in Room 132. Graduation regalia will be available for purchase beginning, TBA. The cost will be $TBA plus tax. Caps and gowns will not be available for purchase at the commencement ceremony; you must buy these prior.

  • Honor Graduates (Cumulative GPA 3.69 or higher at the end of Fall Semester)
    • You must purchase your silver honors stole at the bookstore with your cap/gown.
  • National Technical Honor Society
    • Your white tassel will be passed out at the ceremony.
  • Phi Theta Kappa
    • Your blue and gold honor cord will be available for purchase in the bookstore for $25. No other regalia (gold stole or gold tassels) may be used.

Please read the following instructions for the ceremony and comply with all requests to ensure a safe and wonderful celebration of all of our graduates and their remarkable achievements.

On Commencement Day


If you did not pre-purchase academic regalia, a limited number of caps, gowns, and tassels will be available for purchase from the Bookstore on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will not be permitted to participate unless they have the required regalia. Contact the bookstore at 678-226-6276 for any questions.


Livestreaming will be available. Guests who cannot be in attendance can watch on any device from any location. Streaming video will begin promptly at the start time for the ceremony at


Parking is FREE for all graduates and guests.

Instructions for Graduates at Ceremony

Assembly of Graduates

Graduates should arrive at 9 a.m. with no purses, backpacks, or any other items. Graduates will enter the building via the rear of the Gas South Arena (formerly Infinite Energy), the loading dock area (see map), where they will check-in. To ensure proper social distancing, graduates should go immediately to their assigned seat on the floor after checking in.

Ceremony Protocol

Graduates are required to keep their mask on except while walking across the stage and having their picture taken. Please put your mask back on after your pictures are completed.

  1. Graduates’ diploma covers will be in the graduate’s seat upon arrival.
  2. When prompted by the college marshals, the graduate’s row will proceed to line up for the calling of the graduate’s name.
  3. Graduates will walk to the announcement area with their diploma cover and hand their name card to the graduate name announcer.
  4. When the graduate’s name is called, they will proceed across the stage and stop in front of the large backdrop for the graduate picture to be taken.   
  5. Graduates will then walk back to their seats, following the marshals’ instructions.
  6. Once the ceremony is complete, graduates will participate in the traditional march out of the arena following the marshals and will be able to meet family in front of the Gas South Center (formerly Infinite Energy).

Instructions for Guests at Ceremony

Guest Safety and Security Measures

Upon entry into Gas South Arena (formerly Infinite Energy), all guests will be required to have clear bags. They will be checked and passed through a metal detector. Metal detectors are an effective method for Event Security to safely screen guests and prevent prohibited items from entering the building. In order to increase the efficiency of these machines, guests are asked to keep the following guidelines in mind when attending an event:

  • Arrive early in preparation for additional security measures
  • Only clear bags are allowed; Limit the number of personal items brought into the venue in order to expedite the screening process
  • All graduates, guests, and other attendees are required to bring and wear a face mask.
  • Make sure you have your ticket in hand and prepare for a bag check by Event Security
  • Place your cell phone, camera, and clear bag on the screening table and prepare to walk through the metal detector. Guests will be subject to a secondary screening process if the alarm sounds when passing through the walk-through metal detector.
  • An alternative security screening is available to guests who are: expectant mothers, need assistance, or have a medical condition. Please see Gas South’s Safety and Security Measures site for additional information.

Guest Seating

Under direction from the venue, seating in the Arena has been predetermined to maintain social distancing. Ushers will direct guests to available seats. Guests MUST arrive together if they wish to sit together. If a guest does not arrive with their party, they will not be able to sit with their party and will be directed to other available seating.

Prohibited Items

No backpacks, balloons, large posters, or noisemakers will be allowed inside the venue. Cameras allowed.

What to Wear
  • Black or dark navy blue slacks
  • Black or navy dress or skirt
  • White shirt with a dark color tie or white blouse
  • Closed toe shoes

If you arrive in shorts, you will not march in the ceremony. Also, try to avoid wearing a dress or skirt that is longer than your commencement gown.
